This book is one of the most recent to be published exposing conditions at the Christian Science Church Center. In the early seventies, Alan Young, well known for his career in acting, went to Boston to serve the organization as Director of Communications, and later as a lecturer on the Board of Lectureship. While audiences are familiar with Mr. Young as an entertainer and lecturer, many are unaware of the treatment he received while working for the Board of Directors in Boston. His book is filled with humor and pathos, poignant in its account of his experiences at the hands of an ecclesiastical hierarchy. His book adds yet another first-hand account of conditions in Boston during the years when the members were first beginning to realize that things were not right in the organization. Having become disillusioned with the organization, he has watched the steady decline of the Church over the past twenty years with great dismay. He puts into words a growing realization among many Christian Scientists both within and without the Church — that the time has come when we can no longer rely on Boston to carry the movement forward. We must do our own thinking and our own work. Mr. Young includes a shocking account of the fate of Pleasant View, Mrs. Eddy's home in Concord, New Hampshire.

Preventative Practice

Because absolute Christian Science handles the sourse of error and not primarily the manifestation of error, it gives us the method of the Prevntative Practice which corrects error before it has an opportunity to manifest as "visible error & audible sin".In the practice of Christian Science the , the prevention of disease should take more important place than the healing of disease. Prevention is better than cure . It teach's us to handle latent error , so that it cannot show itself as pain, suffering disease and decay. In arithmetic, too, the primary aim is to calculate accurately , not to correct mistakes. In the measure that consiousness is continually engaged in divinely calculating the synonyms for God and their ideas , false beleifs have no opportunity of entering consiousness to master us in objectified forms of evil. Thus we build a wall of protection against all false influences. Let us not forget that the human consiousness is an omnium-gatherum of universal cosmic, collective & individual beleifs and that these weigh on us whether consiously or unconsiously and try to plague us ! We know harmony is an idea character of
principle; Harmony consists in frictionless relationships, governed by a
system; This main tone may be further supported by sub tones, showing for
example; 'harmony is created from the intelligent interrelationship of
ideas" and so rests on law (Mind); In harmony everything unfolds according to a
definite order, which is spiritual, not material (Spirit); Harmony controls
everything through the rule, that the greater controls the lesser (Soul);
Harmony maintains its self by the method of 'perpetual self renewal'
Therefore cannot run down or deteriorate (Life); Harmony redeems, heals, saves,
because it always affirms the facts of being & claims there true ideal form
(Truth); It is holistic integrating everything into one whole, it is
